Black Cherry

    Prunus serotina  (Black Cherry) 

    Description: 50-60 ft. tall, habitat old fields, moist sites in woods

    Leaves: 2-6 in. long, elliptical, with long tapered tip, rounded teeth, and rusty hairs along the midrib on underside of leaf

    Bud/Flowers: flowers in long clusters, fruit black when ripe

    Bark: mature bark peeling with vertical splits
