Carya tomentosa (mocknut hickory)
Description: 40-60 ft. tall, moist uplands to sandy slopes and ridges
Leaves: 9-14 in. long, leaves compound with 7-9 leaflets finely toothed leaflets, resinous smell, densely haired on underside of leaf
Buds/Flowers/Fruit: large terminal (a bud at the tip of the stem) 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch long, nuts in the husk are nearly 2 in. long
Bark: wide variety (smooth to furrowed)
